When I started spending more time in the Alentejo in Portugal, from about 2011, and spending time observing the man made and natural landscape I lived in and moved through, I started to paint and draw in colour what I saw. Soon, I became eager to express in a direct and physical way and, not having a ceramics studio set up at the time, I began to create simple images of collages and mixed media drawing and painting. These developed as finished works of either a combination of collage, paint and drawing or just paint and drawn works. I found the response to the colours and textures of the surroundings was my influence along with the interest I have always had in artworks with strong abstract compositions.
